Prospects Baseball

Can’t get enough baseball? Have that competitive drive? Want to develop more skills? It’s that time of year when we want to build our prospect teams for 2016!
 
Our prospect teams allow players with a more competitive drive the chance to practice together Friday nights. They spend time working on skills and strategies to help them compete at the tournament ball level.

Age Levels – U9, 9-10, 11-12
When – Friday nights at 6pm from April 22nd to Jun 10th
Where – Centennial Park
Cost – $30 per player
Commitment – as much as you can
Deadline to apply – Tuesday April 19th

Numbers – spaces on the teams may be limited
 
If you are interested in playing or managing/coaching/coordinating one of our prospect teams please email president@cslittleleague.com for more information or to apply.
 
NOTE – this is different than tournament baseball. You do not need to play Prospects to play on the Tournament team. This program is designated to allow more advanced skill building to ready players for a higher level of baseball. Commitment is expected but attendance to every session is not mandatory.

 

Picture Day

It’s picture time!! Bring your smile and clean uniform 🙂

Picture day is set for Sunday May 1st. We will meet outside the 3rd baseline on D5 at Centennial Park. Please arrive 10 minutes early to your time slot so we can have everyone ready to go. Team and individual pictures will be taken this day.

Pitch Hit & Run Competition – Great Prizes

Want a chance to win an autographed baseball by some Toronto Blue Jays? Read on…

We are hosting our Pitch Hit & Run competition again at opening ceremonies!!

The event starts at 9am and closes at 1030am. Competitors compete in five age groups: 4-6, 7/8, 9/10, 11/12, 13/14. Age is determined as of July 17, 2016.

Players pitch 6 balls for accuracy, hit 6 balls off a tee for distance and accuracy and run from 2nd to home plate for time. The scores are tallied and winners are proclaimed!

Prizes include autographed baseballs by some of the Toronto Blue Jays, Victoria Harbourcats prizes and more!

We also need your help to run this great program. If you are interested in helping us for a few hours to make this program a success please contact president@cslittleleague.com right away.

Message from the President

Hello and welcome to our 2016 season!
 
We are very excited this year as we continue to work towards improving our league for players, parents
and fans alike! We’ve taken some big steps to implement a development program for our younger divisions.
We are changing the culture around our baseball park.
 
We are committed to creating a fun, fast paced but simple development program so that our kids
want to come back to the park.
 
But we need your help. CSLL is a non-profit group of volunteers who take great pride in moving forward
to improve our program for the community. But the responsibility lies on you too. There is only so much
we can do on our own. Most of us are doing multiple roles on the board plus managing/coaching etc.
 
So step up and lend a hand to create a better program and a better sense of community. Each team
needs help. Whether it be managing, coaching, team coordinator, helping to setup the fields, putting balls
on a tee at practice, scorekeeping, keeping the bench in order or whatever. It’s up to all of us to pitch in
and make this program a success.
 
At Little League we want to use the game of baseball to teach our kids the values they need to become
good citizens and create a better community. You are the role model.

Little League developing coaches

At Little League we have recognized we want to improve our program to make it more fun and educational for all of our members. We can best teach our kids through our coaches. Train one coach and they will teach many players through their lifetime. We at CSLL began by offering free winter clinics with the Victoria Premier Mariners. We followed this up by inviting everyone to a 1 hour meeting hosted by our VP of Development who played college baseball in the US. He talked about how to make baseball fun, fast paced and simple. We are holding jamborees to start the year for our Blastball thru Rookie programs for more hands on training for managers and coaches. We then provide you with the Little League training program (online under our Managers tab under Coaching Resources) for both Tball and Coach Pitch.

But we’re not alone! Other Little Leagues are doing the same. Beacon Hill has hired a professional instructor to come train their volunteers. You can take part in this as well. Read more below.

Training Offered for Coaches and Parents

To mark our 60th Season, Beacon Hill is planning a number of projects and initiatives that will create a legacy for Little League baseball and softball in our community. One of these initiatives is enhanced training and resources for our valuable volunteer coaches, manager and parent helpers.

Beacon Hill has arranged to bring Coach Trainer Al Herback to Victoria for two sessions of his highly-acclaimed training entitled Baseball Basics: Emphasizing Athletic Development:

Session 1 – Introduction to Baseball Basics (ages 5 thru 8), Monday April 4, 6-10 pm

Session 2 – Beyond Baseball Basics (ages 9 thru 12), Tuesday April 5, 6-10 pm.

Both sessions will be held at the Victoria High School Gymnasium. Registration each evening begins at 5:30pm. Coach training is free for participants from Beacon Hill. Participants from outside Beacon Hill will be changed a nominal fee at the door ($20).

Parent/Coach/Manager Meeting

We at CSLL want to create an environment where both players, parents and coaches all have the opportunity to have fun and learn about baseball. We have initiated a support program for all of our managers/coaches and parents to accomplish 3 main goals. Those goals include:
 
– create a fast paced and fun teaching environment so everyone is engaged and wants to come again!
– advise everyone of the few basic skills we want to develop in each division
– provide the equipment/teaching materials and support to enable everyone to feel confident in teaching
 
This meeting is not mandatory but it comes HIGHLY recommended by the board. Whether one is new to coaching or a seasoned veteran everyone can open their minds to learn what we as a community want to teach our kids. Thanks for being a part of our amazing organization!
