WE ARE HOSTING THE SECTIONALS!!!
Host families are an integral part of any summer-collegiate baseball team, and are the lifeblood the team’s success. The HarbourCats roster is comprised of college athletes from across North America, who will all call Victoria home for two and a half months in the summer.
As a host family, you are providing a ‘home away from home’ for your player(s) during the HarbourCats season. In return, you will gain a memorable summer experience and most likely, a long lasting friendship. Host families often refer to their players as an adopted member of their family, as you form a bond that will last far beyond the end of the season.
The HarbourCats season is relatively short, but is very demanding. The West Coast League (WCL) season sees the HarbourCats play 54 regular season games from June 3rd to August 7th. The HarbourCats will play 4 additional exhibition games in this time, meaning they will play a total of 58 games in just 69 days, 27 of which will be on the road.
Should the team qualify for the WCL playoffs, the season could be extended into mid August.
Accordingly, host families are required for our players from the beginning of June, until mid August.
Expectations of a Host Family
Your primary role as a host family is to provide a safe and pleasant home environment for your player(s) for the duration of the season, which runs from the start of June until the middle of August.
Players will require comfortable sleeping quarters and access to bathroom (with bedding & towels) as well as laundry equipment.
Families should be prepared to provide food for 2 meals per day (breakfast & lunch) however players may not be home for 2 meals per day. The team will provide dinner and snacks at the stadium on game days.
Let your player know your house rules, as they apply to him. Feel free to include your player in family gatherings, dinner, outings, etc.
Expect your player to arrive home late after night games, which start at 6:35 pm, and will most likely need use of the showers when they arrive.
Transportation to and from the field is not required, but is gratefully appreciated if and when you are able.
Compensation
There is standard compensation to host families, in addition to HarbourCats season tickets.
By becoming a HarbourCats host family, you have the opportunity to play a very important role in the life of a student athlete, and aspiring professional baseball player. In turn, your player will be a positive influence, and will likely form a life long friendship with your family.

HELP NEEDED!!!
As you know our entire Little League baseball program is run on volunteers. Within our District which includes Beacon Hill, Lakehill, Hampton, National, Layritz and Central Saanich we are running out of senior (adult) umpires. Many of our adult umpires are set to retire in the next few years.
The adult/senior umpires volunteer as a group to help train our new and junior umpires. They umpire at some of our Majors games and all of our Intermediate games free of charge. We provide them with water and food if they like. They are a vital part of our Little League program. All umpires are given FREE training and uniforms.

Player Eligibility
Players are eligible for Tournament Play, provided they meet the criteria established by the Little League “Residency and School Attendance Player Eligibility Requirement,” “Participation In Other Programs” and the following:
9-10 Year Old Division – Any player League Age 8, 9, or 10, with amateur status, who has participated as an eligible player in 60 percent (60%) of the regular season games as of June 15, with the exception of the school season, on a:
1. Little League (Major) Division team, or;
2. Minor League team.
Little League (Major) Division – Any player League Age 10, 11, or 12, with amateur status, who has participated as an eligible player in 60 percent (60%) of the regular season games as of June 15 on a Little League (Major) Division team, with the exception of the school season.
Synopsis: This would provide participants three years of eligibility for the 9-10, 10-11 and 11-12 Divisions of the International Tournament. This would also provide local leagues additional flexibility in their player selection.
Try-outs or practices by tournament teams shall not be held before June 1. Tournament team practice may only take place against other teams within the same or contiguous districts in the same division, providing such practice is done out of uniform. [The Little League group accident insurance program underwritten by an AIG member company for tournament teams will not go into effect until June 1.]
Violation of this rule may be cause for revocation of tournament privileges by the Tournament Committee.
Synopsis: This would change the requirement for tournament team try-outs and practices solely to June 1.

Picture day is set for Sunday May 1st. We will meet outside the 3rd baseline on D5 at Centennial Park. Please arrive 10 minutes early to your time slot so we can have everyone ready to go. Team and individual pictures will be taken this day.
